General Information - Week of August 28
Class Participation
Each week is devoted to a particular topic as specified in this syllabus. For each week, there is
a list of readings and a list of questions to guide you through the readings and prepare
for class that week. You should type up your answers to these questions and bring them to
class. You may add additional notes to your answers during class. Be prepared to turn in your
answers on Wednesday.
Attendance at class is required. You may have two unexcused absences.
Attendance and participation in class discussions counts 50% of your grade.
Term Project
You are to write a term paper on any topic related to the course. The paper should be prepared in HTML format, with links to on-line references. You may break it up into more than one page. The paper should be at least 25 pages. You should send a 1-paragraph plan for your topic to the class distribution list by October 7 and
bring 2 copies of a draft to class on November 13 (keep one copy for yourself). These copies will be given to
2 students in the class to review. Reviewers should return their comments and
suggestions to you by November 27. Final projects are due on December 9 and count 50% of your grade. Exceptional papers will be published on my web page.
